Rotterdam based drummer Andrea Carta was born and raised in Nuoro, Italy.
He started to play drums at age of 10 years old, following lessons with local drummer Luca Deriu. During these years he takes part to prestigious Italian Jazz-Workshops such as “Seminario di Nuoro Jazz” founded by Paolo Fresu, for several editions, and “Umbria Jazz” (2016), where he has the chance to take part to international jazz masterclasses and play with upcoming and established jazz musicians since a young age.
In 2019 he graduates from the Musical
Lyceum in Nuoro with a score of 100/100
and in the same year he is admitted to “Codarts Conservatory” in Rotterdam, NL.
At Codarts, he studies main subject with Hans Van Oosterhout, Joost Patocka and Mark Schilders, and graduates in Jazz Performance in 2021. He also has the chance to study theoretical subjects such as music theory, music education and music history, and so forth.
During and after his conservatory years he takes part to international jazz competitions such as the Erasmus Jazz Price (2019), jazz festivals in the Netherlands such as “North Sea Round Town” and “Breda Jazz Festival”, as well as international jazz competitions such as the “Erasmus Jazz Price” (2019) and “Karel Van Eerd Awards” 2021.
He is now an active drummer, especially in the Rotterdam Jazz Scene, and he is part of several music projects as founder and bandmember (SPHB, Su Nichel, Vetro, Windows) and sideman (Plankton Orchestra, AAA Trio).
Since 2021 he is also a drum-teacher at “KunstenHuis Idea Muziekschool” in Zeist, NL.
